And what’s the hottest thing in the field of play and playgrounds these days? Adventure Playgrounds! Filled with loose parts, tools, animals, gardens and adult playworkers, Adventure Playgrounds sprung up in Europe after WW II and have been thriving in cities around the world ever since. With more and more communities and families wanting their children to have opportunities for unstructured free play and the chance to take calculated risks and construct things there is a new interest in this exciting play model. And a renaissance in adventure play. And we’re so glad!
Besides working to create natural playscapes and play gardens we are super excited about teaming up with groups to create modern-day adventure playgrounds. With creative collaborations and a dedication to children’s play the possibilities are endless. We provide technical assistance to set up adventure play programs and can help train playworkers to staff your site.
What do you get when you cross a natural playscape with playworkers and an adventure playground? The Hands-on-Nature ANARCHY ZONE at the Ithaca Children’s Garden! (our current favorite project!)
